Lovely natural surroundings within easy walking
 distance of the New Forest

Who runs it
We are a family run festival and you will see us all around the site and our aim is to make your time with us an enjoyable one.
The first year of the festival we were not sure how many people would come along, so we had our own stall selling food, much of it being homemade. It went down very well so we have continued with our own café producing mostly home cooked food.

Nick’s daughter Jo will be managing the bar, whilst his wife Helen will be cooking. Keith and family will be on the merchandise stand, and Nick, he will be everywhere!

Originally we were going to have a stage made of scaffold however,  we found out, just 10 days before our first festival, that the company were unable to provide the staging owing to unforeseen circumstances.

Nick had the brilliant idea of making our own stage, and with a lot of help from family and friends the construction began. Thanks to Fred we got some wood from Chris at our local saw mill, he was amazing and pulled out all the stops to get all the materials to us and in just four days our rustic barn/stage was complete.

Powells Farm has been in the Curtis family for six generations and growing up here has been very special. Dad’s love of nature meant that there has always been lots of birds, animals and wild flowers. Even our cattle were born on the farm.

Here you see dad working in the arena field many years ago. We made hay when the only bit of machinery was the bailer and a bale sledge (if we were lucky) with all the lifting done by hand.  The fields have clay subsoil, so through the summer it dries out giving us a very good site if the dreaded weather should turn against us.

The farm is perfect for hosting a folk festival. It is surrounded by trees and is almost flat with a gentle slope down to the stage and stream that runs through the centre of the farm.
For those who prefer it easy, it’s a gentle short stroll back to the camping field.

Our first year with just a small gathering

How it began
The idea for a folk festival came about during a conversation between Nick and Richard Digance.
Richard has a passion for folk music, as many of you know and he suggested a folk festival on our farm.
So with the help of Richard and some of his friends we had our first festival.
We met such a lot of lovely people, and really enjoyed ourselves and had great feedback from everyone who came, that we have been hooked ever since.

Pretty as a picture!!!

The following year the stage was bigger, there were lots more people and even the Red Arrows kindly gave us a display.

Our Team
We have an amazing team of family, friends, helpers, technicians and security who really do make the festival so special. Without them we would not have such a friendly music event.
Here is a small gallery of SOME of those people.

The Festival Site

In 2014 the speakers went outside for better sound

Then 2015 we introduced “The Fringe”, a small stage in the bar area for singarounds, workshops and for local artists to perform on the Thursday
